There are a few things to set in Windows 10 prior to using Peach:

  • Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn windows features on and off > Legacy components > Enable NTVDM
  • Right click on \Pbsvb and uncheck Read-Only, and set NTFS permissions to Everyone = Full Control
    Same with \Program Files\PBS
  • Turn off UAC again - Windows 10 turns it on by default
The above needs to be done before Peach, Access and Crystal Reports will work (as well as anything that is 16-bit or requires 16-bit libraries)

The Windows 10 upgrade keeps your existing files and folders exactly the same as they were, it also keeps your configuration for existing apps and programs, it only seems to reset the file permissions.

Once the above is done, everything works the same as it did in earlier versions of windows.

  • IIS - Configuration is kept and will still work only difference is an extra AppPool (.NET 4.5)
  • Transactions and the normal trading screens are unchanged and work fine
  • Emailing using Peach also works, (still need NetSetup and .NET 4 or higher, but that appears to be preinstalled in Windows 10)
  • PeachZip seems to install another Microsoft component before running, but is unchanged after that
  • Peach Online v5 will still work as usual, IE11 is still hidden away in Windows 10 so all of the legacy stuff still works
  • Peach Online IPAD is unchanged and runs in the new Microsoft Edge browser
A few other notes:
  • Disabling the firewall seems more effective than adding exceptions for ports (IIS, PDA etc)
  • Disabling Microsoft SmartScreen in Control Panel > Security and Maintenance is a good idea to save some headache downloading update files etc
  • Security Essentials is built in and does a good job for Anti-Virus
  • UAC is turned on again, very good idea to disable
